I went from Part-time work to becoming full unemployed in about 3 weeks. Reality hasn't really set in just yet but the more I look into the job market I'm realizing a few things:
- Small companies are suffering just as much as big companies. When you're a small company and a few of your major clients don't pay it hurts and your world can get turned upside down in just one quarter.
- Now more than ever you need to expand beyond your comfort zone and look into other industries and positions to find work. It will make you push your boundaries and bring other skills to the surface. I was an account manager and a project manager in the past. Those jobs are no few and far between. I need to focus on what else I can do to make my ends meet.
- Never take your paychecks for granted. Aside from being cut back topart time i'm not even getting my paychecks on time. Living paycheck to paycheck has a whole new meaning to me and that's not cool.
- Moving to the west coast was the best decision I ever made and I put in alot of work to get where I am. I'm now realizing that I need to expand my search beyond the city of San Francisco and beyond the Bay Area. Denver, Chicago, NY, Boston, LA. Anywhere I can find something I'm looking because I've been told this more than once before that even though this is an unfortunate event its also an opportunity to do it all. So I'm taking advantage of that and leaving no stone unturned. On that same note I want to make sure I'm not taking a shit job. I want to find something that fits me.
- Since I've lived on the west coast I've wanted to work in nothing but small companies. I love the environment, the intensity, the mindset, and the ability to really make a difference. I'm ready to move. I want the benefits, I want the stability, I want the ca$h flow but I still want to make a difference. I can make that happen but I just need to sell my ass off and not give up. That's the mentality I've got and its all I have to run with right now.

A New Member To The Unemployed
Last month I shared with you a story about my friend I called Vinny Chase. He is out on the left coast working, but his company suddenly reduced his position to part-time. We do have an update on his status and it is not anything to brag about as his company told him to have his cubical cleaned out by the end of the week. I asked him to shoot me and email to share with all of us his mindset and what hi steps are for the near future. It's pretty interesting and inspirational, so I thought I would share it with everyone. Please leave your thoughts, advice, and comments as Aquaman was more than willing to provide Finance Your Life with some insight.

damn man, that sucks for your boy :( but you're right, he's got a most excellent game plan and attitude!
working for a small company myself, it's def. scary...so far we've been told all is great and stuff, but those vendors of ours have to keep paying and all.
let's just pray things finally bottom out and start getting better! And Good luck Vinny Boy - keep us all updated....I'll try and keep Drama off your a$$ in the meantime.
I pray for people like your friend every day. I can only imagine the stress this puts on people with families and such. Sigh.
His attitude is great. Though I am student and "secure" in the fact that class still goes on despite the economic climate, I can identify with his sentiment. His "Keep it moving" attitude will only bring him positive results. Nothing you can do, but stay hungry for something better, maximize the resources and skills you have currently, and keep moving forward. Hopefully we can hear further updates as his situation progresses.
