How To Not Start a Semester

I think it all went wrong when I had to go back to putting the shirt and tie back on everyday. That in itself added a good 20 minutes to my morning. Now, go ahead and throw an extra 3 hours of lecturing from a professor two nights a week, and you have yourself a long ass day that you are not looking forward to!

Yes, my new semester of graduate studies has commenced again and I again have demonstrated how NOT to begin a school year. I will list them in order of how they occurred:

  • Show up late to the very first class right as the professor is taking the innagural attendance (Garuntees that he/she matches the name with your face!)
  • Miss the second class of the term because you decided to go late after your work league flag football game, only to skip it entirely because the game was played in a monsoon and you want to shower ASAP!
  • Show up an hour late to the third class because you had another work league flag football game, this time showing in sweat pants, sandals, and a t-shirt with your face so glossy from the beams of sweat after just playing football!
  • Finally, the king of any castle, forgetting to submit your FIRST homework assignment, only to have the professor personally email you, requesting that you submit it.

Do I know how to start the term or what? I probably should have added the #FML tag to the end of that tweet but it is all good. I am back on the wagon, attentive, and ready to make up for my lost efforts with this course. My own laziness early on can be attributed to the fact that I am taking a course titled Database Design Concepts.

I am a database developer by trade and work with enormous data sets all throughout my day. When I showed up (late) to the first class, the teacher asked the class, “How many people know what a database is?” My reaction was pure shock as I listened to what the professor planned on covering during this course. This class is required for my program, so I figured I will just go through the motions and get it over with, after all, its only 7 weeks long!

So there is my excuse. Not a good one right? I agree and that is why I am here in class, ready to learn and help any other classmates with any of there questions. I figure I can work on my people skills in this class as well as my database skills. Interested in keeping up with my progress? I will be tweeting during class…… ughhhh I mean paying attention! Be easy.

    Sometimes we get lucky….

I know your feeling about the beginning of school year. When I was in college, I ALWAYS planned to be ahead of the ball but quickly fell waaaay behind it.

It happens to the best of us. Good luck with school and getting that debt down.

Thanks for the well wishes. I agree, we always PLANNED to be on top of things from the get go, but it never did happen and it still doesn't. Stay tuned…
