Corny title eh?
I hate to be redundant, but this is another one of those "Why you should pack your lunch everyday" posts. I am writing it for selfish reasons because I have been absolutely atrocious at purchasing food during the week. I am trying to clamp down my money for the rest of 2009 and direct some funds in more needed directions and I definitely can cut back at the amount I spend on fueling my stomach.
The problem is not that I do not pack my lunch every day, as one of the benefits of living at home at age 26 is that my gracious father provides me with a package of food everday. The primary offense is my constant hunger ever hour. I will usually grab a donut and coffee in the morning for breakfast and then eat my lunch that I brought around noon. This is usually not enough because by 12:30 PM I am still hungry and checking the cafeteria menu. Next thing you know, I am sitting at my desk with a tasty turkey burger. See the chain reaction?
To complicate things further, I am in graduate school two nights a week and this extends my evenings to 9:00 PM on Tuesday and Thursdays. This just opens up my wallet even more as I am usually looking for a nice snack before/during/after class.
Starting next Monday, I am going to take some action and plan my week out. I am going to plan out the meals for breakfast and lunch for the entire week. Why no dinner you ask? Because I live at home and the parents got that one covered!
I am trying to follow in the foot steps of Mapgirl, who packed her lunch or ate at home everday last week except Friday (we all have faults). My goal is to parlay this one week challenge into a new routine for the rest of 2009. We have things to pay off, Christmas gifts to purchase, and old pants that need to still fit!
Time to get healthier, get wealthier, and follow through with something that I plan on doing. Any tips? Recipes? Leave a comment or follow me on Twitter (Warning: Mature Audiences Only!). Happy Hump Day!

I want some of your dad's cooking! :-)
I will be watching you next week! I put up a post today about how to have a No Spend Day, rather than just crow about having one. You need #2 on that list. Plan your snacks! If you know you're going to want a morning and evening snack, then make sure you have some available! Think like a diabetic and keep a snack in your backpack at all times. :-)
Even yesterday, I walked into a 4pm mtg with a granola bar, sat there for 2.5 hrs and saved money by only having soup for dinner at a cafe with my girlfriends at 7pm. That's $5 for a big bowl of soup vs $9 for a cup of soup/sandwich combo.
Why are you waiting until Monday to start? That's a cop out like the infamous New Years Resolutions. Resolve to make changes now. Then you can talk about what you are doing, not what you might do in the future.
Roman Noodles. BAM! I've been doing it for the past several weeks. I might not do it "every day" but the majority of the week my lunch cost me, on avg, 2.50 and I'm full.
Hit up some fruits (bannana's/apples) and large qty's of snacks (granola bars) to tide you thru evening class. Been doing this for the past few yrs and it works.
@mapgirl - Your posts are what got me jump started and on this wagon to reduce this habit so thanks! My dad's cooking is in the mail!
@Mr TML - I think your comments speak the loudest b/c that is my biggest issue, taking the action now instead of talking about it. Thanks for the kick in the butt.
@drivemg - i lived on Raman in college and i told myself (and my stomach) I would never go back there. I have been eating some fruit everyday this week. First time in year!
I pack a lunch every day but then again I plan it out on Sundays so I know what I will need.
One of the BIGGEST reasons you are so hungry all the time is that you start off the day WRONG. The roll of sugar (A.K.A. 'donut') and coffee are a terrible breakfast. Add in some protein in your breakfast and you will hold off hunger a bit more.
I used to eat cereal for breakfast and was STARVING by 11. I added in eggs or sausages and the hunger monster now whispers instead of growling. Try it and see.
