My Net Worth Update

In the personal finance world, your net worth is the number that gives you a sense of where you are at in your life.  On one hand, you could have made the rankings for the world’s Top Billionaires (I feel bad for the guy who last on the list… really).  On the other side of the spectrum, you could be and resemble my net worth.

I have not updated my net worth since April of this year, I will defend myself by stating that I have no defense.  When you have a negative number hovering over you like I do, you tend to just let it sit around and be negative, until of course, it moves a significant amount towards zero!   Which brings us to the present day and this post.  Woohoo I increased my net worth by 21.9%.  It took me a little while to understand that I increased my worth by reducing a negative number, I am not the best with numbers sometimes, I apologize for advertising my ignorance.

The culprits for the large change are a large jump in my retirement account (Thank you index funds!) and reducing my student loan debt by paying a large chunk to that witch, Sallie Mae.  The retirement account is hovering around $32,000 as of the middle of this week and my Sallie Mae loan is down to $73,100.  The private loan has not move much lately because we have been funneling some more money towards the credit cards, which are up from the April Net Worth entry.

So there you have… doing a little better now, but like always, I am not satisfied.  Two months left in 2009 and I have a ton of work to do to get myself to a healthier state from a financial standpoint.  With my new year’s resolution’s for 2009 failing by mid year, it is time to close the year on a high note and keep moving this negative number down towards zero.  If you don’t see another net worth entry any time soon, you will understand!  Be easy.

Congrats! That's very exciting and it's cool to see that you have been making solid progress over time. Now if only the Phillies could make it to game 7…

Everything has to go back to the phillies eh? Its all good, it was a content shock that I felt considering I have not done this since April. If I could just get the credit card balance to $0.00 and keep it that way, everything else would start snowballing!
